Michigan Federal and Judicial District Courts

Restrictions on Cell Phones and Other Communication Devices

As defined in the provisions of E.D. Mich. LR 83.31(f)(2) attorneys appearing in connection with any judicial proceeding or presenting evidence of bar membership may bring a cell phone or any other device with wireless communication capabilities into a court facility within the Eastern District of Michigan.
Non-attorneys are not permitted to bring cell phones (including BlackBerrys) or any other device with wireless communication capabilities into court facilities within the Eastern District of Michigan.

Identification and Security Requirements

Valid picture identification is required for entry into court facilities within the Eastern District of Michigan, and all persons are required to pass through security similar to airport screening.

The following items are prohibited from entry in any Federal Court Building:

Firearms
Knives (including pocket knives)
Explosives
Any other items that could be viewed as a potential weapon (e.g. scissors, letter openers, mace/pepper spray and screw drivers)
